Caretaker informs me that coal stock is almost exhausted - he has no house coal & school supply is down to three shovelsful. I inform Mr Baglee, clerk to the managers, she gives me permission to send a note to the coal merchant asking for an emergency supply. Mr Lorimer, the Caretaker, refused point blank to take the note I had prepared saying he had ordered the coal some time ago and that was sufficient. Mr Baglee interviewed Lorimer in the afternoon in my presence. Lorimer admitted refusing to take the note & said he would refuse again. Asked to explain the shortage of coal when two tons had been delivered a month ago in January he said four tons above the
