School closed to-day for the usual Summer holiday. Date of re-opening 17.8.14.

24 August 1914

School re-opened to-day, after a further extension of one week, in consequence of the school buildings being reserved for the uses of the military, for purposes of coast defence during the European War.

25 August 1914

Lilian Handscomb, a student-teacher attached to the staff of the Whitley North School, took up temporary duty at this school during the closure of the former school. In addition to the previously recorded list of Scholarship successes, Frederick H. Todd, of this school (11 yrs of age) has been awarded the Flounders Scholarship (value £20 per annum for 4 yrs) tenable at the North Eastern County School,
